Jaime is currently a candidate for the United States Senate in South Carolina and is the associate chair and counselor of the Democratic National Committee. He previously served as chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party, the first African American to hold the position. He is a first-generation graduate with a BA from Yale University and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
A newly minted author, Jaime’s first book “Climbing The Hill: How to Build a Career in Politics” comes out September 2018.
Hailing from Orangeburg, SC, Jaime began working in politics while in high school. He would become the first African American to serve as executive director of the U.S. House Democratic Caucus. In 2007, he served as counsel and director of floor operations for House Majority Whip James Clyburn. Following his time on Capitol Hill, Jaime moved to the private sector and served as a principal at the Podesta Group.
Before politics, Jaime worked served as chief operations officer and director of program development for College Summit (now Peer Forward), a national nonprofit that assists low-income students enroll in college. Jaime also taught ninth grade social studies at his high school alma mater.
Harrison has appeared as a political commentator on CNN, MSNBC and other national broadcasts.
Jaime is a Fellow of the ninth class of the Liberty Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
