Perhaps the World Ends Here by Joy Harjo

The kitchen table, and the act of coming around it over a meal, is a cultural symbol representing a community gathering place. It's where stories are shared, relationships are built, and where we are nourished physically and emotionally. As we gather around our tables this holiday season, we invite you to reflect on the poem Perhaps the World Ends Here by Joy Harjo. Think on the following questions for guided reflection:

  • What (or who) is your kitchen table – the place or person in your life where you gather to learn, reflect, grow, celebrate, grieve?
  • What are the spaces that have allowed you and your relationships to be nourished? How do you create them in your life?
  • How do you lean on your community through times of celebration? Through times of hardship?
  • In this moment, what are you thankful for? How do you practice gratitude?
  • In this time of reflection, what “last sweet bite” are you savoring?
