Bio:
Jianyu Zhang is the managing director of the China Program for the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). He advocates the use of market based instruments for solving environmental problems, notably the establishment of a domestic carbon trading market for China. Jianyu specializes in environment and energy related public policy issues. He speaks and writes frequently in both domestic and international occasions. He is currently a member of the Lead Expert Group for China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) and an executive board member of the China Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO). Before joining the EDF in 1999, Jianyu helped start two enterprises, one in environmental consulting, and one in educational software. A native of Beijing, he attended Tsinghua University (Environmental Engineering), Stanford University (Civil and Environmental Engineering), and Carnegie Mellon University (Engineering and Public Policy). Jianyu is a Fellow of the second class of the China Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
