Bill Jackson is the Founder and CEO of GreatSchools, a leading US nonprofit working at the intersection of parenting and education. For more than a decade, GreatSchools has worked in the preK-12 arena to help parents support and demand educational excellence at home and school. The organization's flagship website, www.GreatSchools.org, reaches half of American parents annually with information and tools that help them choose schools and bolster their children's preK-12 education. GreatSchools recently launched a new initiative, GreatKids, which further supports parents in guiding their children toward educational success. Built around the concept "parent smarter, not harder," GreatKids is a free and smartphone-friendly stream of personalized information and advice that helps parents foster their children's academic and character strengths. With bite-sized articles, videos, and activities added daily, GreatKids provides the resources and inspiration parents need to help their kids meet high standards. Prior to founding GreatSchools, Bill spent five years managing engineering development and marketing for two computer networking firms, including Whistle Communications, which was later sold to IBM. A graduate of the Coro Foundation Public Affairs Fellowship program, Bill also spent three years teaching, two in China and one in the United States. He has served as a member of the California P-16 Council, a director of the San Francisco Education Fund, and as treasurer for two San Francisco school financing measures. He has served on the boards of the Yale-China Association and currently serves on the board of the Mandarin Institute. Bill received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University. He is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Pahara-Aspen Education Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
