Bio:
Joe Scantlebury is a Senior Program Officer in the United States Program Advocacy Division. He manages the U.S. Program Civil Rights & Equity Organization (CREO) portfolio and helps to lead the Foundation's education data use, privacy and security advocacy. Prior to joining the Foundation, Scantlebury was a staff attorney for the Youth Law Center and the first Director of the Legal Action Center National H.I.R.E. Network. Joe was also an Executive Director of STRIVE/East Harlem Employment Services where he guided the agency's evolution into a dynamic international workforce development agency. He also served as a Special United States Attorney for the District of Columbia; an impact litigator for the United States Department of Labor-Office of the Solicitor, the Civil Rights Division; and an associate at Eisner, Levy, Pollack & Ratner, P.C. Joe is currently a member of the Board of Directors of The Corps Network and of PENCIL: NYC Business Partnership. He chaired the board of the Center for Community Conferencing; and vice chaired the board of the National Youth Employment Coalition. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University and a Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law. He was a 2012 Association of Black Foundation Executives Fellow, a 2003-2004 United States-South Africa Emerging Leaders Fellow, and is a Fellow of the 9th class of the Pahara-Aspen Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
