Amanda McGill Johnson is a member of the Millard Public School Board of Education and is the Executive Director of Nebraska Cures, an organization promoting, supporting and advocating for health science research. Amanda also recently published her first children’s book "The Unicameral and You: Collaborating for the Common Good in Nebraska’s Capitol."
Previously, McGill Johnson served as a Nebraska State Senator from 2007-2015. She served for five years as the Chair of the Urban Affairs Committee. During her 8 years in office, she was a champion of children and women focusing attention on children’s behavioral health and human trafficking. Once she was term limited out of the legislature, she moved home to Omaha and was elected in 2017 to the schools board and ran for reelection unopposed in 2020.
McGill Johnson has bachelor’s degrees in Broadcasting and Political Science from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and began her career as a television reporter at KCAU in Sioux City and KOLN/KGIN in Lincoln. She also served as District Director and Interim Chief of Staff to Congressman Brad Ashford in 2016 and 2017.
