Title and Organization:
Laura has been committed to underserved communities for over ten years. She started as a volunteer in Chicago, preparing Central and South American Immigrants for their U.S. Citizenship interview. Her experiences in Chicago led her to explore the intersection of immigration and education on the USMexico Border, where she served as a Teach For America Corps Member. Although she loved teaching, she wanted to learn how to create more systemic change beyond the four walls of her classroom. That desire led her to Deloitte Consulting, where she specialized in organizational change management for seven years, working with Fortune 500 companies, state governments, and nonprofits. While at Deloitte, Laura remained close to education. She founded a five-year college readiness program for her former students, where she followed a cohort from 8th grade through high school graduation. Her work in college readiness later became the focus of her doctoral research, where she specialized in college counseling in rural communities. Each of these experiences led her to her current role as Director of Strategy for Wonderful Education, where she is focused on improving education and career opportunities for students and families in California’s Central Valley.
