Alison Bengston-Mali is the chief director of Districts Operations Management in the Gauteng Department of Education. In this role she manages five educational districts' offices, comprising 860 schools within the Gauteng Province. Alison also leads the parenting and family support program. In 2011 she was elected president of the Education Management Association of South Africa (EMASA). As president of EMASA, she has been able to engage in international debate, strengthen her leadership skills, and influence in creating change in the education system nationally. She holds the following qualifications: an LLB from University of South Africa (UNISA), a Master's Diploma in Human Resources Management from Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), a Bachelor of Education from UNISA, a Higher Education Diploma from UNISA, and Bachelor of Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). Alison is a Fellow of the eighth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
