Bio:
John M. Toomey, Jr. is a managing director of HarbourVest Partners, a leading global private equity investment firm. John serves on HarbourVest’s two-member Executive Management Committee, acts as the chief executive officer, and serves on the firm’s four-member Global Investment Committee. He first joined HarbourVest in 1997 as a member of the direct investment team and since 2003, John has been a member of the secondary investment team. John played a leading role in the 2007 initial public offering of HarbourVest Global Private Equity Limited (HVPE) on Euronext Amsterdam and served as its chief financial officer from the IPO through September 2008. John’s previous experience includes an analyst role at Smith Barney in the Advisory Group focusing on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructurings. From 2007 to 2016, he served on the board of directors of Lexington Montessori School and served as Treasurer for eight years. John received a bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in chemistry and physics from Harvard University in 1995 where he was a member of the varsity football and track and field teams, and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2001, where he was awarded the Loeb Fellowship for outstanding achievement in finance. John is a Fellow of the 2017 class of the Finance Leaders Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
