Tre Maxie currently serves as director for the newly established Youth & Engagement Programs at the Aspen Institute. Tre grew up in many places thanks to his dad’s career in the military. By age 18, he’d lived in places as diverse as Alaska, Texas, Japan, Georgia, and Washington State. Tre was inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr., so he attended King’s alma mater Morehouse College, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science Pre-law. He has spent 20 years working on behalf of the community in both the nonprofit and public sectors. Washington State Governor Jay Inslee appointed Tre to the Washington State Board of Education, where he has served since 2011.
Tre is a global advocate for education equity and youth mentorship. “My mission in life is to provide opportunities to youth that propel them beyond their life circumstances,” says Tre. In addition to Tre’s degree from Morehouse College, he has earned a certificate in Creating Business Strategy from the Columbia University Extension School in Tokyo. Tre enjoys urban architecture, documentaries, and international travel. He collects images of city skylines, and has traveled to over 200 cities across five continents.
