Cheryl Stanton was appointed executive director of the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) by Gov. Nikki R. Haley in May 2013. She is responsible for the overall administration and management of the state employment agency, which is focused on providing quality, customer-driven workforce services that promote financial stability and economic growth to individuals, businesses and communities. Prior to her appointment at DEW, Cheryl worked as a labor and employment attorney in both the public and private arenas. She served in the White House under President George W. Bush as the administration principal legal liaison to the U.S. Department of Labor, National Labor Relations Board and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She also worked for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito when he served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Cheryl is a member of the board of directors for Girls on the Run Columbia, the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Five Points. She received her undergraduate degree from Williams College and law degree from The Law School at the University of Chicago. Cheryl is a Fellow of the 12th class of the Liberty Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
