Desmond Shum is a Chinese-born entrepreneur, investor, and author with decades of experience in private equity and real estate across China. As President of Aeropolis, he led groundbreaking airport city developments, including logistics and commercial projects at Beijing Capital International Airport. A committed philanthropist, he has funded scholarships at Tsinghua University, Harvard, and other institutions, with a focus on the humanities. Shum is the author of the international bestseller Red Roulette, a memoir that exposes the nexus of power and wealth in China’s elite political circles. The book was a New York Times and SPIEGEL bestseller and has been published in 12 languages. He holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a joint EMBA from Northwestern University and HKUST, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst and Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute.
