Bio:
Reginald Massawe is chief executive officer of African Microfinance LTD where he is responsible for setting and overseeing the direction of the institution. In 2004 he began working toward a PhD thesis on Alternative Approach in Financing SMEs. While working on his PhD studies, he developed an intense interest in providing microfinance services as one way of reducing poverty in developing countries like Tanzania. He decided to postpone the PhD study to engage fully in the microfinance business by setting up a Microfinance Institution and thus crossed the floor from being an employee to being an entrepreneur and self-employed. Before beginning his career in microfinance, he worked in human resources management where he held a variety of positions covering a wide range of responsibilities. Reginald holds a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in education. He also holds two diplomas, one in personnel management and another one in education. Reginald is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative in East Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
