Gene Wade is the co-founder and CEO of OneUni, a social venture that partners with top universities and mobile carriers to help students in emerging markets earn their university degree using a mobile device. Starting in Kenya, OneUni targets market where there is fast growing middle class, significant unmet demand for university education and an abundance of mobile devices Prior to OneUni, Gene was co-founder and CEO of UniversityNow, a social venture that operates an affordable online university. Prior to founding UniversityNow, Gene was Co-founder and CEO of Platform Learning, a tutoring company that served tens of thousands of low-income students throughout the United States. He was also Co-founder and CEO of LearnNow, a school management company that managed urban charter schools and public schools. Prior to becoming an education entrepreneur, Gene was a corporate bankruptcy attorney. He earned an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from Morehouse College. As a serial education entrepreneur, Gene's work has been profiled by several global media outlets, including Forbes Magazine, The New York Times, and Fast Company. Gene also shared his personal story and vision for UniversityNow as a TEDx speaker. His TED Talk is called "Building the World's Most Affordable and Accessible Private University Online." Gene is a Fellow of the 10th class of the Pahara-Aspen Education Fellowship, a board member of the Pahara Institute, and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
