Yelberton (Yebbie) R. Watkins is currently chief of staff to Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn. In this capacity he provides leadership to a team of legislative, policy, and communications professionals. Concurrently, Yebbie serves as chief of staff for Congressman Clyburn's congressional office, a position he has held for the last 14 years. In addition, he has served as liaison to House leadership, The White House, executive branch agencies, and to private industry. Yebbie has been twice featured in Roll Call newspaper on the "Fabulous 50 List" of top staffers on Capitol Hill. He has also been profiled in National Journal. Yebbie previously worked for U.S. Senator Terry Sanford. Active in his community, he serves on the board of trustees of Washington's Historic Shiloh Baptist Church and is a former board member of the Washington Symphony Orchestra. A Columbia native, he holds a BS in biology from Duke University and a JD from Georgetown University. He is a Fellow of the second class of the Liberty Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
