Title and Organization:
Morty Ballen is the Programme Director at Global Schools Forum (GSF). GSF strengthens the global education sector by working with non-state organizations in developing countries; its 48 members span 33 countries, and collectively run or support 17,000 schools, serving over 2.2 million children. Prior, Morty was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Explore Schools. Founded in 2002, Explore's mission is to provide its students with the academic skills and critical-thinking abilities they need to succeed in college-preparatory high schools. Explore serves 2,000 students in 8 schools in central Brooklyn; more than 1,000 Explore graduates have matriculated into college-prep high schools. Morty was a 1992 Teach for America corps member in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and taught in South Africa and New York City. He earned his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College and his M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University. Ballen is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Pahara-Aspen Education Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
