Srinivasan Aravind is the director of AMECS (Aravind Managed Eye Care Services), which serves as a strategic Arm of Aravind eye care system to address the basic issues of providing eye care in the underserved regions. In partnership with MP Birla group, Gujarat-Sun Pharma Group, and Rajasthan-Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, Aravind Eye Care System currently are running eye hospitals in places like Kolkatta (WB) and Amreli (Gujarat). Apart AMECS his interests include performing phaco surgeries and taking care of the outpatients. He is involved in teaching eye health management courses leading to capacity building, training, research activities and research administrators. He has presented in numerous International Conferences about the "Aravind Model" of high volume, high quality, cost effective eye care. He is also Mentor for the MBA students of Wharton School of Business, University of Michigan. Aravind graduated in medicine from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore, South India in 1992 and completed his residency in ophthalmology leading to Masters in Ophthalmology from Aravind Eye Institute and Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology, Madurai, South India in 1996. He is married with Dr. Haripriya Aravind, also an Ophthalmologist and blessed with a daughter Ms. Nethra Aravind (13 years) and a son Master. Arya Venkat Aravind (8 years). He is a Fellow of the fifth class of the Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
