Govindraj Ethiraj is a television and print journalist and founder-editor of www.indiaspend.org, India's first data journalism initiative and a social entrepreneurship venture. He is also the founder of Ping Digital Broadcast, a Google multi-channel network (MCN) for knowledge, news, and utility programming for digital audiences. He also writes for newspapers like Business Standard on mostly business issues and anchors seasonal shows on channels like Headlines Today and Rajya Sabha Television. Previously, Govindraj was founder and editor in chief of Bloomberg TVIndia, a 24-hour business news service launched out of Mumbai in 2008 and a partnership between Bloomberg LLP and the UTV Group in India. Prior to setting up Bloomberg TV India, he worked with Business Standard newspaper as editor, with a specific mandate of integrating the newspaper's news operations with its digital or Web platform. Before that, Govindraj spent five years with television channel CNBC-TV18, where he drove most of the channel's programming growth and expansion initiatives. He also worked with the Economic Times newspaper, Business World, and Business India magazines. His awards include: British Chevening Scholarships For Young Indian Print Journalists at The University of Westminster in 1998; Selected as one of 25 most influential personalities in media and advertising in Bombay by Mid-Day on its 25th Anniversary(2004); Nominated for Distinction in Communication at the Teacher's Achievement Awards 2004; Award For Outstanding Contribution To Media; Indira Award For Marketing Excellence 2006. In 2014, he was a recipient of the BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Award. He graduated from Elphinstone College, Mumbai. He is a Fellow of the inaugural class of the Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship , as well as a member of and moderator for the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
