Konehale (Kone) Gugushe is the chief risk officer for the Land Bank responsible for the bank’s enterprise-wide risk management function. Kone previously served as divisional executive of corporate social responsibility for Nedbank Foundation, the primary corporate social investment (CSI) arm of the Nedbank Group Ltd. Her responsibilities included strategy development, implementation, and operational administration and extended to the coordination of group-wide CSI strategy implementation and reporting for the Nedbank Group. Kone has chaired various credit committees, primarily Nedbank Corporate Banking and Nedbank Africa while acting as deputy chair for the Credit Committee. Kone also has served as the senior portfolio manager for group credit risk monitoring where she evaluated the credit risk associated with lending and investment activities undertaken by the bank. Before Nedbank, Kone worked for Safika Investments (PTY) Ltd. as a private equity executive, where she was part of a team that managed a R310 million fund. She also spent time at JP Morgan Equities as an associate equity research analyst. Kone’s career started at Moores Rowlands in Cape Town, where she was a trainee accountant. Kone is a chartered accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Rhodes University, a Certificate in the Theory and Practice of Auditing from the University of Natal, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the University of Cape Town. Kone is a Fellow of the tenth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative – South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
