Bio:
Pamella Makotsi Sittoni is the Managing Editor of the EastAfrican, a regional weekly newspaper, published by the Nation Media Group. As Managing Editor, Pamella shapes the coverage of the East African region and provides strategic leadership for the publication. Prior to re-joining the Nation Media Group in 2012, Pamella was a Communication Specialist at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Kenya, where she, among other things, led the agency's engagement with Members of Parliament and was charged with mobilising the media to keep children's and women's issues on the national and global agenda. Pamella began her career at the Nation Media Group as a reporter in 1993 and worked at various levels, rising to the position of Managing Editor of The Standard in 2005. She has also edited five books on philanthropy in East Africa, published with the support of the Ford Foundation. The books document the initiatives of individuals and organizations that continue to have an impact on the lives of thousands of people through their acts of giving. Pamella holds a degree in literature and anthropology and a post-graduate diploma in communication from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and a Master's degree in New Media, Democracy and Governance, from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. She is a fellow of the fourth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative in East Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
