Michael Buckham joined Sygnia Limited in Jan. 2017. He was previously the chief financial officer of Prescient Limited, a financial services company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, which he joined in 2007 in a finance role whilst the company was unlisted. Michael played a key role in the Company's listing process in August 2012, and had overall financial responsibility for the group which includes approximately 25 companies involved in investment management, unit trusts, administration, insurance, retirement funds and other services. Michael also played a role from a management and finance perspective for the Prescient Foundation which is an entity that has education as its core focus. The Foundation has several rural schools and disadvantaged school programs under its ambit. Michael was educated in Johannesburg and moved to Cape Town to attend the University of Cape Town where he obtained his Finance honours in a Business Science degree. He also achieved a post graduate degree in accounting at UCT and completed his articled period at Arthur Andersen where he successfully completed the Board Exam and achieved his CA (SA) designation. Michael also completed his CFA in 2002. Michael enjoys mountain biking in his spare time in order to keep fit and he occasionally gets onto the golf course when family time allows. He also has a passion for wildlife and photography, particularly the diverse and beautiful birdlife of our country. Michael has been married to Jean for 15 years and they have 4 children, Thomas (10), Adam (8), Jack (6) and Emma (2). He is a Fellow of the ninth class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-South Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
