Bio:
Mahmoud Thabit Kombo is deputy minister of information, culture, and sports and the House Representative for Mpendae Constituency in Zanzibar and serves as the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture and Sports in the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. Mahmoud is heavily involved in community projects such as schools, water and sanitation, health and savings and credit societies as part of his efforts to alleviate poverty in his constituency. Prior to becoming a politician, he worked as an IT and telecommunications consultant with Crown Commercial Company Limited, a business manager with Micronics Limited, and operations manager with ZANTEL, a cell phone company. Before joining ZANTEL he worked with Datel Tanzania Ltd as a commercial and marketing manager from 1996 to 1998. From January to August 1999 he was a systems analyst for the President's office. He was project manager for one of the largest human resources management information systems and central government payroll system in Africa. Mahmoud holds an MS degree and a post-graduate diploma in artificial intelligence from the University of Sunderland (1996), and a BA in business computing from the same university. Mahmoud is married and lives with his wife and children in Zanzibar. He is a Fellow of the inaugural class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-East Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
