Bio:
Ramez Shehadi is managing director for the MENA region at Facebook. He leads the operational and commercial growth of Facebook and its expanding portfolio of apps, services and platforms (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Workplace, Oculus, etc.), with the aim to drive and magnify both the mobile-first performance success of the business as well as the positive impact of further enabling the +250 million people using the platforms and the millions of others not yet using them, to build social and commercial communities and bring the region closer together. He was formerly the senior partner, executive vice president and managing director of Booz Allen Hamilton, driving the international expansion of the firm's general management consulting services for public and private sector clients across all major industry verticals in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). A seasoned strategy consultant, Ramez has led global lines of business for other consulting firms primarily in the digital business & technology domains. Ramez has written extensively and advised private and public sector organizations on topics ranging from digital strategy to technology-driven socio-economic development, sectoral digitization and next generation smart services and infrastructure. Ramez has also built and led corporate social responsibility programs with the aim to deliver positive change across the MENA region through diversified support on essential themes such as empowerment of women, entrepreneurship and other socio-economic issues. Ramez has also served as senior director of product development at eBreviate.com in San Francisco, a research associate at the Centre for Management of Technology & Entrepreneurship think tank in Toronto, mechanical engineer at Stone & Webster in Boston, and competitive 8m class amateur sailor and medalist in the 1997 and 1998 North American Championships and the 1999 World Championships. Ramez is a board member of the Young Arab Leaders (YAL) and several other regional NGOs and technology start-ups and remains an active Endeavor mentor and Young Presidents Organization (YPO) member. Ramez holds a BEng in mechanical engineering from Rutgers University and an MASc in industrial engineering from the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the second class of the Middle East Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and the Aspen Corps of Moderators.
