Bio:
Maya Karkour is an environmental consultant for EcoConsulting, which she co-founded in 2003 in London, UK. The company offers inter-related sustainability services namely to the construction sector, including green building certifications, bioclimatic design, and energy-efficiency advice, in addition to other environmental / sustainability services including carbon footprint analysis, corporate environmental awareness & policy, and providing circular economy and eco-seminars/conferences. Maya moved back to Beirut, Lebanon in 2008 to create EcoConsulting's Middle East branch. She has worked on numerous projects aiming at reducing their environmental footprint - including the eco-renovation of a family house, which received an "Excellent" certificate by the British BREEAM in 2014. Maya has been a keynote speaker at numerous sustainability conferences and has conducted eco-building seminars. Maya is currently the President and Board Member of the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association (www.lebanontrail.org), and is heading its Education Committee. She is actively involved in different not-for-profits and initiatives focusing on environmental awareness, circular economy and ecodesign activities, and is coaching eco-entrepreneurs under the European SwitchMed program. Prior to 2002, Maya worked as a management/strategy consultant, namely at Mercer Management Consulting. Born in Lebanon, she holds a master of science in environment from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a bachelor of commerce from McGill University. Maya is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Middle East Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. In her spare time, Maya enjoys swimming, sailing, yoga, climbing, reading and photography.
