Bio:
Henry Hipps is a Senior Program Officer on the Next Generation Learning team at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He works at the intersection of technology, strategy, and organizational transformation to foster technology-enabled approaches that support teachers and improve student achievement. His portfolio is focused on the systems-level solutions needed to support the scalable, sustainable growth of personalized learning for all students. Previously, Henry was Senior Director at the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, Mayor Villaraigosa's school turn-around organization. There he led technology, performance management, finance, facilities and other teams supporting over 20,000 students in 21 schools. Henry was also Founder and CEO of Trajectory Learning which delivered web-based K-12 applications with culturally-relevant content designed to increase student engagement and improve student outcomes. Prior to his work in education, Henry was a management consultant and Engagement Manager at IBM Business Consulting where he led global teams on business transformation engagements. Projects included strategy definition, business process redesign, enterprise software implementation and other technology services projects. Throughout his career, Henry has sought opportunities to use entrepreneurship and innovation as tools to create social impact. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay to work with high-potential startups which were poised to drive economic growth in the region. Henry holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from University of Pennsylvania and an MS in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese. He is a fellow of the Aspen Pahara Education Fellowship's eighth class and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
