Passionate about advancing women and developing talent to grow successful and impactful organizations, Elizabeth A. Fleming, Ph.D. served as President of Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina from October 2005 to June 2016. Prior to Converse, Betsy was Executive Director of the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a M.A. from the Royal College of Art in London, and a Ph.D. in the History of Art from Yale University. Betsy currently serves on the Board of Directors for Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina, on the Board of Advisors of CTE, one of North Carolina’s largest privately held companies, and as a Trustee to The Lachaise Foundation. She has previously served on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Charlotte Branch, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the Council of Presidents for the Association of Governing Boards (AGB), and the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Steering Committee on the Future of Higher Education. In May 2016, Betsy was awarded South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, The Order of the Palmetto, for her transformative leadership in education, the arts, and civic and business development. She is a Fellow of the inaugural class of the Liberty Fellowship Program and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
