Bio:
Jo Watson Hackl is a writer, a corporate attorney with Wyche, PA, and the Founder of Outdoorosity.org, a free resource for information and inspiration about nature. Her bestselling novel, Smack Dab in the Middle of Maybe (Random House), received the Southern Book Prize and is an Amazon Teacher’s Pick. A first-generation college graduate, Jo is on a mission to help equip students with skills to increase grit and resiliency, to use the power of writing to transform their lives, and to connect more deeply with nature to reduce stress and increase well-being. Jo and her team have developed the Building Grit Kit, the Writing and Revision Toolkit, the Book Club Kit, and the Summer Adventure Kit (available at www.JoHackl.com). Jo presents to students and educators virtually and in person throughout the world. Jo has worked for over thirty years to end the generational cycle of poverty. She serves as a board member of the Hollingsworth Foundation and as a mentor to start-up companies through the MIT NEXT Venture Mentoring Service. Jo also serves on the Greenville Technical College Area Commission, the South Carolina Educational Television Foundation Board, and on the South Carolina Research Authority Board. Jo has received the Richard Riley Award, the Tommy Thomason Award, the Ruth Nicholson Award, and the Athena Award. Jo received her JD from Yale University Law School and her BA from Millsaps College. She is a Fellow of the third class of the Liberty Fellowship Program
