Bio:
Anton J. Gunn is the Chief Diversity Officer and Executive Director of Community Health Innovation at MUSC Health where he is responsible for oversight and execution of the Health System’s diversity initiatives and innovative community health programs. Previously, he served as a senior official in President Barack Obama’s Administration as the Director of External Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), where he advised President Obama and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on public engagement strategies to introduce Main Street to the Affordable Care Act. After leaving the Obama Administration, Anton became the President of 937 Strategy Group, LLC, a healthcare strategy firm providing consulting services to technology startups, healthcare businesses and entrepreneurs. Anton is also a former Resident Fellow at the Institute of Politics in the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
As a former state and federal policymaker, Anton has 20 years of public policy, advocacy and executive leadership experience in the healthcare & human services arena. He has provided hands-on direction of high-level government and non-profit initiatives. Anton possesses a strong public presence and the ability to positively influence, train and coach staff, managers, business leaders and other stakeholders toward organizational goals. With a professional mission built on bringing diverse perspectives together to solve world challenges, Anton is often recognized for his excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, as well as his vision, commitment, business acumen, and astute negotiation abilities. He also has built a well respected and proven track record in radio, television, print media, and social media and in front of live audiences both domestically and internationally. Anton has been recognized in the Huffington Post as one of the Top 50 Progressive Activists Who Are Changing America.
Anton is a professional speaker, coach and author. He is a certified John Maxwell Team coach, speaker & trainer focusing his leadership services on those in public service and the health professions. His first book, The Audacity of Leadership, was released in September 2009. Anton has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal, The Source, The New Yorker and Time Magazine. He also has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, MSNBC Live and The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. Anton was also the focus of a 60 Minutes-style international news documentary produced by the Japan Broadcasting Corporation (also known as NHK). Anton is a fellow of the sixth class of the Liberty Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
