Bio:
Maria-Isabel Lujan is a partner at the law firm Quiñones, Ibargüen & Luján, S.C., where she focuses on corporate law, international business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and international financings. She also serves as member of several boards of directors of Guatemalan companies and has taught commercial law at Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala. Maria-Isabel is co-founder, board member, current president, and pro-bono legal advisor of Fundación Proyecto de Vida, a non-profit organization that promotes the empowerment of Guatemalan citizens through the GuateAmala Movement; member of Alternativa Independiente, a lawyer´s organization that promotes the enforcement of the rule of law through the Guatemalan Lawyer´s Guild; and board member of the Camara Oficial Española de Comercio en Guatemala. She earned an LLM from Vrije Universiteit Brusel (Belgium), a master in comparative jurisprudence (MCJ) from New York University School of Law as a Fulbright Scholar, and graduated as attorney-at-law, notary public and licentiate in juridical sciences from the Law School of Universidad Francisco Marroquín (Guatemala). She is a Fellow of the fifth class of the Central America Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
