Bio:
Gabriela Etchelecu is a dedicated advocate for responsible environmental development with work experience in scientific institutions, NGO and the private sector. Gabriela directed MarViva Foundation dedicated to protecting ocean resources. She was also the President of the Environmental Committee of the Business Association of Panama and a member of their Board of Directors. She worked as a researcher at the Smithsonian Institute in Panama and is a SCUBA Diver Instructor Trainer. A Marine Docent since 1994, Gabriela has broad experience in Volunteer work and has been a commissioner in several environmental Committees. Gabriela was declared Daughter of David in 2010 for her community work with fishers. She was honored with the Keys of the City of Panama in 2008 and the Young Values Prize in 2007. She was born in Panama. Gabriela earned her bachelor of science at the University of Panamá in 1995 and has post graduate studies in ecology and biotechnology. She is a Fellow of the seventh class of the Central America Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Currently Gabriela works teaching Environmental Science and Biology at the Academia Interamericana de Panamá working with youth groups in environmental responsibility.
