Bio:
He is a Computer Systems Engineer from Monterrey Tech and MBA from INCAE Business School, with specialization programs from Harvard Business School, University of California at Berkeley and Babson College. He is an expert in venture capital, fintech, IT, company valuations, mergers and acquisitions, among other fields. He was the founder of the first venture capital angel group in Panama. He raised over 2 million dollars in funding for the angel fund, and operated the whole process having analyzed more than 300 startups and established companies and invested in 7 high potential startups. As of today the angel group has become a business angel network, the first of its class in Panama. He has been in charge of the first business accelerator in Panama, with operations involving a dealflow of more than 500 startups and spinoffs per year in different development stages, being responsible for the selection committee that has reviewed more than 2,000 business plans and startup decks. He made the first startup investments in Panama using convertible notes and safe notes. He has managed technical cooperation programs with multilateral organizations for the promotion of venture capital in Panama for more than 8 million dollars with the Inter-American Development Bank, Infodev – World Bank and European Union AL-Invest programs. He was responsible of the design and creation of a national integrated support system for innovation and opportunity driven entrepreneurship, including venture capital mechanisms such as a business angel network, a seed capital venture fund, and a co-investment fund, among others. He was also the first propeller and responsible from 2009 to 2018 of the elaboration of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study in Panama. GEM is a global diagnostic study of the early entrepreneurship levels in more than 50 countries. He was also in charge of the implementation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Venture Mentoring Service in Panama, along with City of Knowledge Foundation. He was also a member of the design group for a fintech startup sandbox in Panama, along with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Banking Superintendency and the Stock Market Superintendency in Panama. He is a business consultant in innovation, strategy, digital transformation and venture capital, and he is a member of the board of Banco Delta, the most important microcredit bank in Panama. He has been an invited professor at the Global Competitiveness Leadership Program organized by the Georgetown University Latin American Board at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business’ Office of Executive Education. – Washington, D.C., U.S.A. He has also been a global facilitator for the MBA of Thunderbird School of Management and Monterrey Tech. He is a fellow of the Central American Leadership Initiative of the Aspen Institute, and also a member of Rennaisaince Executive Forums.
