Bio:
Dr. Helen Gichohi has joined Equity Group Foundation as the Managing Director. Previously, she was responsible for directing the African Wildlife Foundation's African Heartlands Program in eight massive landscapes throughout central, eastern, and southern Africa. Dr. Gichohi worked with a wide variety of scientists, community officers, government officials, lawyers, donors, and partners to ensure the future for Africa's wildlife. She designed and managed conservation strategies which reduce threats to wildlife in the Heartlands and improve socioeconomic conditions for the people living there. During the 42nd Independence Day celebrations, the President of the Republic of Kenya awarded Dr. Gichohi the Order of Great Warrior of Kenya Award in recognition of her sterling contribution to conservation. Named a Catto Fellow by the Aspen Institute, Dr. Gichohi also recently won the 2012 Giai Environmental Award at TheWIFTs Foundation International Visionary Awards. She received a B.S. from Kenyatta University, an M.Sc. from the University of Nairobi, and a Ph.D. from the University of Leicester, UK.
