Bio:
Mel Pennington is Vice President at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in Hartsville where he also serves as Mayor of the City. He was a founding partner of Pennington & Bailes, a national apparel line of collegiate licensed products doing business in China and the US. Prior to being elected Mayor, Mel was vice chair of the Planning Commission of Hartsville. He serves on the boards of Darlington County Economic Development Partnership, Deaton-Kennedy Advisory Board and Hartsville Community Development Foundation. He is the Founder of Leadership Darlington County, Chair of Sonoco Products Corporation Ambassadors Program and President of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association. Mel is also a member of the Professional Development Committee of the National Funeral Directors Association. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Retail Management from University of South Carolina and his Associate Degree in Funeral Service Education from Fayetteville Technical College.
