Phil Calian is Founder and Managing Partner of Kingsbury Partners, a private firm that focuses on providing capital and ownership skills to distressed companies. Currently, Phil owns and oversees a hardware manufacturing company (Hudson Lock), a mineral well brine producer (Michigan Chloride Sales) and a community newspaper group (Lewis County Press). Prior to starting Kingsbury Partners, Phil was CEO of American Classic Voyages Co., the largest owner and operator of U.S. flag passenger vessels and worked for more than 10 years with American Classic’s controlling shareholder, Equity Group Investments, Inc., Sam Zell’s investment company. Phil also worked as reporter for The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and The Pittsburgh Press and as a chemist/researcher at Gulf Oil Research and Development Co. Phil is currently Lead Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for Equity Lifestyle Properties, Inc. (NYSE: ELS), the largest owner of manufactured home communities and RV resorts in the world; a Director of CC-Development Group., Inc., a private owner, developer and operator of senior living communities controlled by the Pritzker family; and is Audit Committee member for Chai Trust Company, Sam Zell's Trust Company and Family Office.
Phil is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He is a graduate of Brown University where he obtained a BA in Chemistry. He and his wife Jill and two of their four sons live in Evanston, IL. Phil is a 2000 Henry Crown Fellows of the Aspen Institute and member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
