Markku serves as Chairman of the Board for Neo Industrial PLC, a Finnish publicly listed investment company for which he previously served as Managing Director/CEO, which invests mainly in long-term industrial investments, hedge funds, shares and other securities. One of their primary investments is the REKA Corporation, which Markku ran from 2002 until 2008. REKA is a privately held, family-controlled Finnish industrial conglomerate with interests in cable, shoes, rubber and real estate, with operations in Scandinavia, Russia and Eastern Europe. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of REKA Cables (Finlands leading manufacturer of power cables) from 1995-2001 and Market Development Manager from 1991-1995. He started his career at Schutz Kabel GmbH in Abensberg, Germany in 1982 and in 1988 moved to Alunorf Neuss GmbH. Markku currently serves on the boards of the Federation of Finnish Metal Engineering and Electrotechnical Industries in Helsinki; the Center for Quality of Management in Cambridge, MA; the Chamber of Commerce of Hyvink/Riihimki; the Europacable SME committee (an interest group of European cable manufacturers); SAV (a credit company); and CAG (an independent corporate finance house). He was previously chairman of the board for Hiisi Group, Finlands oldest securities trader. Markku received his Baccalaureate in Hyvink, Finland and went on to earn a Masters in Economy from the University of Beyreuth, Germany in 1990. In 2002 he attended the SEP course at Stanford University. He and his wife and two children live in Helsinki, Finland. Markkua is a member of the 2003 class of Henry Crown Fellows and the Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute.
