Bio:
Honored by Newsweek as one of the “Women Shaping the 21st Century,” Tiffany Shlain is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, founder of the Webby Awards, and author of the best-selling book 24/6: The Power of Unplugging One Day a Week (Simon & Schuster). The book explores her family’s decade-long practice of turning off all screens one day each week for what they call their “Technology Shabbats,” as well as the history, psychology, and science of technology, time on and time off, and the ramifications of our 24/7 world -- for individuals, society, and our democracy. The Museum of Modern Art in New York just premiered Dear Human, her live-cinematic essay performance based on the book, and she will be bringing Dear Human to different cities in 2020. She is the co-founder of two global initiatives, Character Day (her Henry Crown Fellow project) and 50/50 Day -- global days that unite millions of people through films, discussion materials, and a global livestream to address important issues shaping our lives. Character Day explores the science of character development and screen use and 50/50 Day focuses on gender equity (April 2020). Tiffany’s films and work have received over 80 awards and distinctions including premieres at the Sundance Film Festival and being selected by the US State Department to represent America around the world. The Albert Einstein Foundation selected Tiffany for their book and initiative Genius: 100 Visions of the Future. She serves on the Leadership Board of the Center on Media and Child Health at Harvard's Boston Children's Hospital, and the advisory board for WaitUntil8th.org, about delaying getting children smartphones. She lectures and performs worldwide on the relationship between technology and humanity. Find out more at tiffanyshlain.com Follow : @TiffanyShlain
