Bio:
Portia Yarborough is the Chief Science & Sustainability Officer at Michelman, a global developer and manufacturer of environmentally friendly advanced materials for industry, offering solutions for the coatings, printing & packaging, and fibers & composites markets. Previously Portia was a Senior Technology Leader supporting the Transportation & Industrial Business at the DuPont Company. As a leader in Science & Technology for high performance engineered polymers, she drove sustaining and disruptive initiatives focused on product, process, and business model innovation. She has a gift for delivering innovation excellence through cultivating, coaching and training high-performance teams. Prior to this role, she was the Strategic Planning Manager for DuPont Performance Polymers presiding over business strategy development and long-range planning in tandem with senior business team members. Over the course of her DuPont career, she has impacted many areas ranging from research, application development, supply chain, operations and business management. Portia joined DuPont in 1998 as a research chemist.
Portia serves on the Board of Directors for Hope Academy Fund, a non-profit education-focused organization that develops the next generation of changemakers. She is passionate about education and actively supports advancements in STEM training for minority youth. She graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Wake Forest University and earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry from Cornell University. She is a 2010 Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
