Bio:
Andy is the founder and CEO of 5 Nails, LLC a private investment and advisory firm that unleashes the potential of industrial, life science, and consumer products companies. He has been Chair & CEO of both IDEX Corporation and Madison Industries. Over a decade leading these businesses he championed associate engagement, community leadership and value creation. His thoughtful approach to engaging all stakeholders led to best-in-class associate engagement, millions of dollars invested in local communities, and the creation of $20 billion in shareholder value.
In 2021 Andy led Madison to achieve remarkable results, including an increase of $7 billion in equity value, a doubling of revenue, restructuring the top leadership team, launching a new business system, and $6 billion of acquisitions.
Andy was appointed CEO of IDEX in August 2011 and Chairman in January 2012. During his tenure as CEO, IDEX total shareholder return grew by more than 500 percent, more than double the return of the S&P 500. He helped instill a distinct strategy, style of competition and culture centered on great teams. Additionally, Andy led the launch of a unique business system based on 80/20 and lean principles, with an obsessive focus on solving customers’ needs. Just as important, associate engagement increased significantly during his tenure, placing IDEX near the top of the manufacturing sector.
Andy joined IDEX in January 2009 as vice president and group executive for the company’s growing Health & Science Technologies businesses. Before joining IDEX, he held executive positions of increasing responsibility at Rexnord Industries, Newell Rubbermaid, and Danaher Corporation. Andy began his career as an equity research associate for Fidelity Investments.
He serves on the board of directors of Stryker Corporation and is a former director of MacLean-Fogg. Andy was named one of the most powerful CEOs 40 and Under by Fortune Magazine and one of the top CEOs in America by Institutional Investor Magazine.
Andy has been a trustee for the Manufacturers Alliance, a member of the Board of Advisors for the Dartmouth Thayer School of Engineering and served on the advisory board for Harvard Business School. Andy is also a member of the 2012 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute.
A strong believer in serving the communities in which we live and work, Andy has served as a director for the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County, Illinois and as a National Trustee for the Boys & Girls Club. Through the Silvernail Foundation his family has created multiple scholarships. At IDEX, Andy established and grew the IDEX Foundation, the company’s charitable giving entity.
Andy received a bachelor’s degree in Government from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
He and his wife live in the northern Chicago suburbs. They have three children.
