Bio:
Ceasar C. Mitchell is an Atlanta native and a partner with Dentons US LLP, the world’s largest law firm. He practices real estate, finance and public policy, and leads the firm’s interdisciplinary Local Government Solutions group. Ceasar is the immediate past President of the Atlanta City Council where he served for eight years, after completing two terms in a citywide council post.
As a compassionate, high-impact and entrepreneurial leader, Ceasar championed initiatives focused on improving the quality of life of Atlanta citizens through economic opportunity, education, intergovernmental partnerships and public safety. For six years, his annual Back to Business Conference connected thousands of small business owners with decision-makers in large private and public sector organizations to strengthen local business to business opportunities. For over 13 years, Ceasar’s semi-annual College Prep Series empowered more than 8,000 Atlanta students with college admissions guidance and test preparation to ready them for life after high school graduation.
Always creative and solution-oriented in his approach, Ceasar authored several legislative measures to spur economic revitalization in underdeveloped areas of the city with targeted economic incentives for small businesses and property owners. He also was a leading legislative sponsor of the nationally recognized Beltline project and championed the inclusion of community benefits in the initiative. Understanding the connection between greenspace, public safety, community health and economic growth, Ceasar established several citywide taskforces including one to advance Atlanta’s goal to create a world-class parks system, and another to promote a safer learning environment for local college students. Turning tragedy into triumph, he led the transformation of a dangerous unpaved road into a safe walking path for residents of a southwest Atlanta neighborhood.
Recognized for integrity and fairness, with a unique ability to access a wide spectrum of relationships, Ceasar’s civic leadership is local, national and global in reach. He is noted as one of Atlanta’s 100 most influential people and is listed in Atlanta Magazine’s Influential 500. Ceasar has been featured as one of Georgia’s “40 under 40,” as well as a “Rising Star” in the legal community. Ceasar is a Henry Crown Fellow, the Aspen Institute’s most prestigious fellowship for emerging leaders in business. Ceasar served on the governing board of Points of Light, a global civic engagement organization founded by President George H.W. Bush. He is also a board member for the Atlanta Music Project, a community-based organization dedicated to enriching Atlanta’s youth through music education. Understanding Atlanta’s interconnectedness to the metropolitan region and the state of Georgia, Ceasar served on the executive board of the Georgia Municipal Association and was the first Atlanta City Council President to serve on the Atlanta Regional Commission.
Ceasar’s current and former civic activities and affiliations further include Trustee Richard B. Russell Library Foundation, Past President Gate City Bar Association, Past Board Chair Hands on Atlanta, University of Georgia and Emory University Boards of Visitors, Morris Brown College Board of Trustees, Leadership Atlanta and Outstanding Atlanta.
Ceasar is a longtime member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta. Fraternally he is a member of St. James Lodge #4, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Kappa Boule’), where serves as Secretary. Additionally, he serves as chair of the Southeast Regional Public Policy Committee and sits on the governing board of the 1904 Boule’ PAC.
Ceasar is the son of Ceasar C. Mitchell, Sr., who was Associate Pastor of the historic Butler Street C.M.E. Church and an officer in the Atlanta Police Department, where he founded the Afro-American Patrolman’s League and formally organized the police department’s Chaplaincy. His mother Carnella Sloan Robinson, a third generation Atlantan, is a retired Atlanta Public Schools educator. Ceasar graduated from Benjamin E. Mays High School, Morehouse College and the University of Georgia School of Law where he served on the International Law Journal and won a national moot court competition.
Ceasar and his wife, Dr. Tiffany Mitchell, an Atlanta Public Schools teacher, are longtime residents of the Historic West End neighborhood and are blessed with three children Canon, Czarya and Ceasar, III. Their home of worship is Impact United Methodist Church.
