Bio:
María Alejandra Ramos works full time as a doctor (endocrinologist) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in both public and private hospitals. She is the Head of Endocrinology services of the Hospital Escuela Universitario and a Professor ad honorem of postgraduate in Internal Medicine for the Universidad Nacional Autónoma in her home country. She has done research on Diabetes Mellitus, thyroid cancer and hypoglycemia. She is a thesis advisor to graduates aspiring for Internal Medicine Degree. In 2017 she started the first center for Diabetes education for medical and non-medical personnel to improve Diabetes care. The center will serve as a hub in the strive to update fellow medical doctors in current Diabetes care and organize research in the endocrinology field.
She considers herself an extremely passionate, energetic, caring individual who enjoys reading, traveling and learning about new places, spending time with her family and helping her patients. She lives in Tegucigalpa, Honduras has been married to an amazing man for 18 years with whom she has two incredible children; a boy and a girl. Maria Alejandra loves to go to museums and Sightseeing. Durning the COVID a pandemic she was I charge of the COVID response for the biggest national hospital in Honduras the second largest in Latin America; taking on her the challenge of coordinating this response was the result of the skills she learned and grew through her Aspen/CALI experience.Maria Alejandra is a Fellow of the 12th class of the Central American Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
