Jamal Shaikh is a journalist and magazine editor based in India.
After cutting his teeth at the Times of India, one of the world’s largest English newspapers, he launched the Indian edition of Men’s Health magazine, introducing fitness to a population that felt fitness was a luxury for the privileged. He then launched Robb Report, the world’s leading luxury magazine in India, and Discover Channel Magazine.
He is currently the Editor of the Sunday magazine of the Hindustan Times called Brunch, which is India’s largest lifestyle publication with a print run of 1.2million copies per week. He is also National Editor – New Media Initiatives, where he dabbles with creating new platforms for projecting content and ideas to new audiences.
Jamal has been in the forefront of encouraging a traditional-minded population to embrace progressive ideas, including gender and sexuality, health and fitness, inclusiveness of religion, race etc.
Since his student days, Jamal has been involved with community development as part of Rotaract, and has used his power as a journalist to highlight stories of social importance. He has successfully used glamourous faces to turn into influencers of positive thinking, sparking ideas of charity, help and compassion for all.
He is a Fellow of the sixth class of the Kamalnayan Bajaj Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
