Lawrence Mafuru is the Director of Resources Mobilisation and Economic Sectors in the President's Office- President's Delivery Bureau in Tanzania. He was formerly chair of the Tanzania Bankers Association and managing director of the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) of Tanzania. He previously served as head of treasury and head of sales for rates and foreign exchange at NBC. He worked in Standard Charter's Global Markets as a corporate sales dealer, where he was involved in global Treasury products sales. There, he pioneered cash management and transactional banking services in the Tanzania branch. He began his career at Standard Chartered as a bank clerk before moving to the corporate banking department as a corporate service officer in 2000. Lawrence, who turned 38 in June, is married to Noela. They are blessed with two daughters. He is a Fellow of the third class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-East Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
