Bio:
Raised in Kenya, Namibia and Somalia, Laila Macharia is the Chairman of the Africa Digital Media Institute (ADMI). Headquartered in Nairobi, ADMI is a vibrant learn-and-work creative technology community that has trained over 5,000 students from some 30 different countries over the last decade. ADMI’s apprenticeship platform – the Talent Trove – provides top-tier creative technology talent to clients worldwide. Laila is also the CEO of the Prodigio Project which applies virtual and augmented reality technologies to bring education, event and enterprise solutions to market. A serial entrepreneur, Macharia serves on the boards of Absa Bank of Kenya and Centum, both listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. She has wide expertise managing US$ portfolios and transactions in the United States and Africa. Admitted to practise law in Kenya as well as Maryland and New York, Macharia holds a B.A. in Planning & Public Policy from the University of Oregon, a JD and LL.M from Cornell University and a doctorate in law from Stanford University. Macharia was honored in 2010 as a Fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Africa Leadership Institute and in 2012, was named one of the Top 20 Women to Watch in Africa by the Times of London.
