Title and Organization:
Laila Macharia is the Founder of Scion Real, a Nairobi-based firm that invests in the growth of Africa's cities. Laila has had wide experience managing US portfolios in the US and East Africa, including at the New York office of Clifford Chance. She serves on the boards of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance and Centum, the largest listed private equity firm in Eastern Africa. Laila holds a B.A. from the University of Oregon (USA), a JD and LL.M from Cornell University (USA) and a doctorate in law from Stanford University (USA). She teaches periodically at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School and also contributes to the Business Daily and the African Review. In 2012 Laila, was named one of the Top 20 Women to Watch in Africa by the Times of London. She is a Fellow of the third class of the Africa Leadership Initiative-East Africa and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
