Paymon Rouhanifard serves as the superintendent of the Camden City School District in Camden, New Jersey. After the state assumed control of the District in June 2013, Governor Chris Christie appointed Paymon in August 2013. Paymon is leading the District through a strategic plan, developed with community input and support that charts the way forward to improve student outcomes, increase support for staff and better engage families. Paymon started his career in New York City as a sixth-grade teacher and went on to serve as executive director of office of portfolio management at the New York City Department of Education. In this role, he opened new, high-quality district and charter schools, supported the turnaround of struggling schools and advocated for admission and enrollment changes that led to thousands of more New York City students being better prepared for college and careers. Previous to joining the NYC Department of Education, Paymon worked in the financial sector as an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs and a private equity associate. He holds a bachelors in economics and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a Fellow of the 19th class of the Pahara-Aspen Education Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
