Title and Organization:
Paul is experienced executive with a twenty-year history of success leading multiple institutions across the education landscape. As an advocate for education reform, he has taken on challenging assignments to improve K-12 education in across California. Paul’s wide-ranging work in public, charter and private school reform has earned him a reputation for being passionate and persistent in the pursuit of achieving the highest standards of academic success for all children he serves.
Paul currently serves as the Executive Director for Grimmway Schools, a charter school management organization (CMO), in Bakersfield, California serving over 1,300 K-8 students. Since joining in 2016, Paul has incorporated the CMO, replicated a second campus, successfully planned and raised $25M in tax exempt bonds for the construction and refinancing of two campuses, and has raised $2.7M to support growth of the organization.
Before joining Grimmway, Paul was appointed President and CEO of St. John Bosco High School, an all-boys Catholic high school in Bellflower, California. Under his leadership, the school increased enrollment by 20%, grew the number of four-year college-bound students from 62% to 80%, improved the college persistence rate among graduates to 95%, and boosted annual fundraising from $650,000 to $4.4 million.
Prior to his institutional leadership roles, Paul has served as Chief of Staff to California Secretary for Education, Richard Riordan; Chief of Staff to the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education (District 7) and Director of Joint Use Development, respectively; Director of Operations for the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools for Mayor Antonio Villarigosa; and, Senior Advisor to the California Charter Schools Association.
He is a Fellow of the 20th class of the Pahara-Aspen Education Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network. Paul lives in Bakersfield, California with his wife, Noel and their two sons, William and Matthew.
