Bio:
Sulungeka Dazana (BCom, MAP, MBA) is a broadcasting and communications professional with a wealth of experience. Her expertise include Content Management (Interactive TV, Digital and Linear Channels), Content Acquisition and Scheduling, Strategy, Corporate Communications and Public Relations. Based in Gauteng, she consults to clients requiring boutique marketing, content and communication consulting. At the pinnacle of her broadcasting career she was the General Manager of youth focused channels at MNET, a subsidiary of Multichoice DStv, South Africa’s leading broadcasting company. Landmark successes during her tenure include significantly increasing TV ratings of three channels (Vuzu, Channel O, Channel O Africa and Magic World) as well as consistently exceeding commercial sales targets. Her role also included translating business objectives into tactical projects and requirements that drive value for customers, viewers and social media followers. Her work entailed the analyses of market data and customer insights to identify profitable opportunities and international trends, make decisions, develop the roadmap and collaborate with strategic partners to deliver world-class offerings that capture market share, drive optimal customer engagement and increase revenue. At Vuzu, she crafted various strategies for local and international content that are still in effect today. At Multichoice, she was appointed as a Portfolio Manager where she was responsible for Interactive TV Channels such as the DAL Channels (Dedicated Advertising Channels) as well as the 24/7 Channels (News, Weather and Sports), the Mobile music channels, Games and Enhanced applications (eg Big Brother). In this role she developed and defined user interface specifications as well as defined business rules and requirements, rare and unique skills in a digital world. Her focus on delivering compelling content to viewers continued in entrepreneurship when her company was co-awarded the contract to deliver the South African Sports Awards for 2013, 2014 and 2015, live to television, by the Department of Sports and Recreation of South Africa. As a Consultant, Sulungeka has worked on several brands for clients such as DSTV Compact bouquet and an international TV Channel broadcasting in South Africa - NBC Universal. The work required a firm understanding of the black consumer market to ensure effective media management and communication through the use of traditional and new media avenues such as ATL, BTL, activations, print, television, digital and social media.She has also provided consulting services in strategy, communications, PR and reputation management for clients such as SOE Eskom, Modikwa Mine – a joint venture between ARM and Anglo Platinum, Sedibeng Municipality, Gauteng Provincial Government, National Department of Sports and Recreation Arts and Culture. Most recently in March 2017, Sulungeka, along with two partners won the Standard Bank Private Signature Banking account for Standard bank’s exclusive clients. She is adept in constructing out-of-the-box, timeous solutions and effective strategies/action plans to address business problems and communication challenges. She is a passionate strategist and a practical implementer.
