Bio:
Raina M. Merchant, MD, is associate VP and director of the Center for Digital Health at Penn Medicine. She is also a tenured professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine with secondary appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Raina also serves as co-director of the Penn National Clinician Scholars Program. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, on the Editorial Board of the Journal for the American Medical Association (JAMA) and on the Board of Trustees of the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago. She has been continuously funded by the NIH for 11 years and conducts projects evaluating health behaviors and communication on digital platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Instagram, and Google. Raina has over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has been featured in Wired, The Economist, and The Wall Street Journal. She was recognized by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as one of 10 young investigators likely to have a significant impact on the future of health and health care in the US. Raina received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University and completed medical school and residency training at the University of Chicago. Raina is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Health Innovators Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
