Bio:
Arun R. Patel, MD, JD, MBE, a pediatrician and attorney, is the director of quality, patient safety, and risk management for the LA County Department of Health Services. During his tenure there, Arun has held a number of additional roles, including director of quality improvement, associate medical director of LAC+USC Medical Center, and director of pharmacy services. Arun also sees newborns in the nursery at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. Immediately before joining the department, Arun was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow in Washington, DC, where he served in the Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services and on the staff of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Prior to joining the fellowship, Arun practiced as a health care regulatory and transactions attorney in San Francisco, and, before that, in the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is a founding member of Doctors for America and has served on the boards of ReSurge International, which supports reconstructive surgeries around the world, and the Metta Fund, which supports health improvement in San Francisco, CA. Arun received his MD at the University of Mississippi, his JD at Stanford University, and his bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After completing a pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, he completed a master’s degree in bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania. Arun is board certified in general pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Arun is a Fellow of the fourth class of the Health Innovators Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
