Co-founded Zen Interactive Media with the vision of creating a new, dynamic and boutique digital agency in Guatemala. At Zen, María is leading a woman only team to differentiate the agency by giving clients a more personalized service tailored to digital industry trends. María has several years of experience in the advertising and digital industry in Guatemala and the Central American region, and has worked with lists of clients, including several multinational companies and large local business conglomerates. She also has different endeavors in the digital communication sector. After graduating in 2006 with a B.A. in advertising from Southern Methodist University, she also went for a specialization program in marketing and sales management, concluding with honors. In 2015 she finished her master’s degree in Corporate & marketing Communication at IE Business School in Spain. Maria is currently Vice President of Maia Impact School the first female, indigenous-led secondary school in Central America. She is also the recipient of numerous scholarships and awards including, but not limited to, the Global Competitiveness Leadership Program from Georgetown University, selected as a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum and was named one of Guatemala’s top 10 Women Entrepreneurs in 2015 by Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization. She currently is a Faculty Professor at Universidad Francisco Marroquín and has served as board member of FUNDESA since 2016 where she participates in some of its commissions and projects for the social and economic development of Guatemala. She is also certified as a Climate Change Leader and member of eTrade for Women is an initiative led by UNCTAD. María is a Fellow of the fourteenth class of the Central America Leadership Initiative and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and, also a member of the Central American Prosperity Project led by the George W. Bush Institute.
