Bio:
Born in her father’s native Brazil, Emily first arrived in South Carolina as a freshman in high school, living in Columbia. She went on to earn a B.A. in Political Science and Communications Studies from the University of North Carolina and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Emily joined Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd in Columbia where she practiced law for thirteen years; three as a shareholder.
Her legal accomplishments as well as the focus of her practice – employment law – positioned her well to be tapped in 2016 by then-Governor Haley to serve as Director of the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. She remains active as a member of the Board of Junior Achievement of Greater South Carolina, as Chair of its Midlands District Board, and as a member of the South Carolina Bar. Emily is a Fellow of the 15th class of the Liberty Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
